As chief financial officer, John Butler oversees the company’s global financial planning, accounting, reporting, analysis, product and services pricing, business analytics, tax and treasury, and financial administrative operations. When Kronos merged with Ultimate Software in April 2020, Butler became chief financial officer of the newly combined company with more than $3 billion in global annual revenue.
Since joining Kronos in 1996, Butler has served in a variety of financial roles covering all aspects of accounting, planning, reporting, tax, treasury, and providing guidance to a broad range of company operations. In 2007, Butler played a key role in negotiating the sale of Kronos to private-equity firm Hellman & Friedman for $1.8 billion, and subsequently in executing various modifications to the company’s capital structure. During his tenure with Kronos, he has been involved in more than 60 of the company’s acquisitions, spanning companies, products, and resellers of Kronos products.
Prior to Kronos, Butler was a certified public accountant (CPA) at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), and worked in a variety of finance and accounting roles at small and large technology companies.
Butler earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a master’s degree in accounting from Bentley University.
