Golden Living Expands Investment in Kronos® Solution
35,000-employee health organization centralizes workforce management and reduces payroll inaccuracies with biometric data collection
CHELMSFORD, Mass., April 8, 2008 In an effort to centralize workforce management and eliminate payroll inaccuracies, Golden Living is upgrading use of time and attendance data collection devices from Kronos® Incorporated throughout its 350 long-term care facilities. Golden Living is a long-time user of the Kronos iSeries Central suite, which comprises of workforce management applications specifically designed for the IBM eServer iSeries. Golden Living is now using the Kronos 4500 Touch ID terminal, a web-based biometric device, seamlessly integrated with the Kronos iSeries Central suite.
"At Golden Living, we continue to invest in technologies that essentially help us provide quality care," said John Derr, senior vice president and CIO, Golden Living. "Kronos' biometric terminals are providing us access to secure and reliable real-time reporting, which helps us ensure accurate payments and instills a sense of fairness among employees. This ultimately optimizes employee productivity and ensures that our patients are well-served, which is our primary mission."
Centralize workforce management
Tracking time and attendance accurately for a large employee base is not a simple task to accomplish. Besides reducing data collection errors, Golden Living is also benefiting with the new terminals by lessening the burden on its IT department as the Kronos 4500 Touch ID can be supported from a central desktop location. Additionally, this enables the organization to adopt a standardized approach for managing a geographically dispersed workforce.
Eliminate buddy punching
"Buddy punching", or employees inappropriately entering time and labor data for each other, is a problem that many organizations face but are unable to prove or determine its financial ramifications. Golden Living is using the Kronos 4500 Touch ID terminals to ensure that it is eliminating buddy punching costs, and has already reduced 2.2 percent of total hourly payroll related to this abuse. This helps Golden Living stay focused on maximizing its budget for providing quality care.
Engage employees with self-service functionality
Self-service options not only help employees stay motivated but also ensure operational efficiency. With the Kronos 4500 Touch ID terminals, Golden Living can provide its workforce with self-service functionality. Transactions such as requesting time off, punching-in hours worked, and viewing time-cards can be processed at the terminals. This saves employees, managers, and human resources personnel significant amounts of time, which reduces overall costs and improves efficiency.
"We are hearing one thing from our customers today, which is the need to align labor, productivity, and patient care," said Brian Graves, director of healthcare marketing at Kronos. "Our venture with an innovative organization such as Golden Living, which strives to focus on employees and patients before anything else, is a leading indicator that health organizations are increasingly looking to optimize overall productivity to balance quality care and labor costs."
