Northwestern University Selects Kronos® to Track Absenteeism and Effectively Manage Employees Working Multiple Jobs

Leading university to implement Kronos Workforce Central® suite

CHELMSFORD, Mass., April 15, 2008 — Working with tight budgets and rising tuition fees, universities today need to boost productivity and enhance services to remain competitive. Northwestern University, one of the country's leading private research and teaching universities, has selected the Workforce Central® suite from Kronos® Incorporated to improve employee productivity and manage labor costs.

Kronos' comprehensive workforce management suite will help Northwestern address the complexities of its unique workforce by effectively managing all student employees working multiple jobs at its campuses in Chicago and Evanston, Ill. The Kronos solution will also accurately track absenteeism for the university's 10,000+ employees, including absences that qualify under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

"Because we have a diverse employee population, including students who often work two or more jobs on campus, we needed a solution that could track multiple jobs, which report to different supervisors," noted Kathy Tessendorf, director of human resource information at Northwestern University. "Kronos has made this functionality part of its core workforce management suite. By automating manual processes through Kronos, we will minimize errors in important human resources functions, and free resources to focus on making Northwestern a great place for learning and research."

Multiple jobs, one view

With the Kronos solution, Northwestern's student employees who hold multiple jobs with disparate wages, work rules, labor accounts, and supervisors, will be able to enter their time with minimal effort on one card, and be assured that the approval process is streamlined and accurate. Functionality within the Kronos Workforce Central suite will help to ensure that managers and supervisors approve only the time that was worked for their department, which will ultimately lead to improved payroll accuracy and efficiency.

"We are privileged to partner with Northwestern University to address the specific challenges associated with managing a university workforce," said Christine Carmichael, director of government and education marketing at Kronos. "We have proven expertise in this sector, having provided more than 250 higher education institutions with tools to manage their professional, union, auxiliary, and student workforces consistently and effectively."
