Kronos® Helps City of Manchester Address Budgetary Constraints
Workforce management solution selected to help city reduce costs and drive
operational efficiencies
CHELMSFORD, Mass., Sept. 3, 2008 Nearly 70 percent of U.S. cities and counties have exceeded their operating budget at least once in the last five years. The current economic condition is making it even tougher for local and state governments to operate efficiently without burdening taxpayers. Projections for New Hampshire's City of Manchester indicate that revenue for Fiscal 2009 will be $13 million less than the previous year's earnings. Committed to the financial well being of its citizens, Mayor Frank Guinta has outlined a new budget for next year, which will maintain the city's core services without raising taxes. As part of this overall strategy to improve productivity while reducing costs, the City of Manchester has selected a workforce management solution from Kronos® Incorporated.
"Labor is the largest controllable expense for any government," said Mayor Frank Guinta. "With limited budgets and shrinking revenues, it is ever more important that the City maximize the productivity of its workforce in order to make government more efficient. The automation of our manual workforce processes with Kronos will help the City keep costs under control while allowing us to continue rendering quality services to our citizens. This is a responsible step for our city government and I am glad to support this change."
With the use of the Kronos Workforce Central® suite, the City of Manchester will have a centralized and automated workforce management system, which will provide access to real-time labor information. This information will allow the city to proactively manage its employees in instances such as overtime. For example, if an employee is reaching overtime, a manager will be able to modify the schedule to ensure that employees stay within their allotted hours. Managers will be able to track attendance metrics such as tardiness and absences so occurrences can be addressed before they become issues. The new solution will also help the city adhere to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations.
Additionally, the City of Manchester will eliminate all routine paper-based payroll processes and benefit from a streamlined payroll system, which will allow it to reduce errors, leading to increased employee satisfaction.
"More than 500 government organizations in the U.S. use our workforce management solution, which helps them automate error-prone processes," said Christine Carmichael, director of government and education marketing at Kronos. "We are always proud to work with customers that demonstrate such strong commitment to their publics such as the City of Manchester. With Kronos' easily implemented solution and proven ROI, we are confident that we will see great success in this relationship."
