CHELMSFORD, Mass., Feb. 3, 2010 — K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc., ranked among the nation's 50-largest supermarket chains, has extended its use of the hiring application from Kronos® Incorporated to include time and attendance, analytics, absence management, and optimized scheduling.

- K-VA-T is an existing user of the Kronos hiring application, which helps it improve the overall quality of the workforce through automation of the hiring process. Now, to achieve its goal of improving store productivity, K-VA-T is extending its use of Kronos applications to include time and attendance, analytics, absence management, and optimized scheduling.
- Prior to Kronos, K-VA-T relied on semi-automated systems for these critical workforce business processes, which are now being fully automated and centralized across 93 stores operating under K-VA-T’s leading banner, Food City, and 12 Super Dollar Discount Foods stores. The Kronos solution is being deployed across all departments.
- The Kronos selection process involved input from all business sectors, including store managers, IT, accounting, and others. While the solution had to be flexible and scalable, the key prerequisite was a system that could provide complete automation across disparate operations.
- Kronos’ flexibility and ability to integrate with other store systems will help K-VA-T better manage its workforce at store level. Kronos integrates with K-VA-T’s existing application for HR and payroll, with expectations on the future build-out of analytics utilizing POS and supply chain interfaces from the existing data warehouse.
- With Kronos, K-VA-T plans to optimize its store scheduling to ensure that the right people with the right skills are in the right places at the right times. The solution leverages historical sales, customer demand patterns, and store profile data to derive accurate weekly sales and labor plans which, combined with actual labor spend, provide enterprise visibility and control of store productivity.
- Using the analytics solution from Kronos, the supermarket chain will have real-time visibility into labor data to monitor scheduled hours and overtime as well as project schedules based on employee input. This will help K-VA-T analyze the impact of workforce decisions on labor budgets and productivity.
- Kronos is enabling K-VA-T to efficiently administer other workforce-related functions such as time and attendance and absence management.
- Additionally, the automated workforce processes ensure that appropriate training is completed by associates to avoid unnecessary costs related to non-compliance.
