Diverse Federal Agencies Turn to Kronos to Improve Workforce Efficiency

Over the past few years, federal government agencies have focused on modernizing processes to achieve efficiency improvements.

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Jan. 21, 2009 — Over the past few years, federal government agencies have focused on modernizing processes to achieve efficiency improvements. As a result, demand for workforce management software has been steadily rising. In its last fiscal year, Kronos® Incorporated, a leader in workforce management solutions, continued to demonstrate excellent momentum within the industry, having achieved a 29 percent increase in the number of federal government individual users. Today, more than 600,000 federal employees and contractors across 60 agencies use Kronos to automate costly processes associated with accurately calculating employee pay, scheduling employees, and tracking leave time.

Efficiency and workforce invigoration

While federal agencies vary greatly in their objectives, they all share a common goal of improving operational efficiencies by automating and modernizing processes. To address productivity improvements in workforce processes, a diverse group of U.S. federal agencies turned to Kronos in the past 12 months, including the Department of Labor, the National Science Foundation, and the Social Security Administration.

Kronos webTA™, a web-based, workforce management solution designed exclusively for the U.S. government and developed to support accessibility requirements outlined in Section 5081, helps federal agencies improve operational efficiencies by eliminating administrative tasks, reducing costs, and maximizing available data. Integrating with human resources, payroll, and other reporting systems, the solution automates timekeeping processes, improves data accuracy, reduces costly payroll errors, and meets the standards of a variety of federally mandated compliance regulations. Time and attendance, scheduling, leave, and labor management data are collected through automated processes and fed into a single source that gives customers a comprehensive view into their workforce data.

“We listen to our customers and present solutions that help them effectively manage their workforce,” said Jeff Babcock, vice president of the federal division at Kronos. “As the new administration takes over, agencies must focus on improving productivity and service while controlling costs. Kronos can help achieve this balance.”

Strong partnerships and flexible solutions deliver value to federal agencies

Partnerships with the Department of Interior’s National Business Center, the Federal Election Commission, and the Federal Housing Finance Board have enabled Kronos to take great strides in the federal market. Today, 11 of the 15 Executive Departments use Kronos to manage their workforce.

“We have a strong understanding of what is required to support our customers today and well into the future,” added Babcock. “Our partnerships with leading government shared service centers in support of the Office of Personnel Management’s HR Line of Business2 (LOB) initiative help to achieve a complete flow of accurate and certified data from the point of entry through to the payroll process.” The Kronos webTA solution is firmly aligned with the HR LOB vision and goals, and enables agencies to automate, engage, and optimize their workforce while reducing total costs of ownership.

As new enhancements have been added to the webTA solution, users such as the Architect of the Capital, Department of Commerce, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Patent and Trademark Office, and the Smithsonian Institution have added tools to further address productivity improvements. The webTA solution allows new capabilities to be added without causing disruption, and enables rapid delivery of the functionality to end users.
