ORLANDO, Oct. 20, 2008 — Kronos® Incorporated is proud to honor outstanding organizations that have achieved excellence in the use of Kronos applications. The winners of this year's awards are BJC Healthcare, Catholic Health East, Ceradyne, Shooting Star Casino, Somerfield Stores, and Wabash National Corporation. Kronos presented awards to these organizations this morning during the opening session of KronosWorks™, the industry's largest conference dedicated to exchanging ideas on how to effectively manage the workforce.
"For 10 years now, Kronos has recognized a short list of Best Practices Award winners who use Kronos technology to achieve extraordinary results in managing their workforce," stated Aron Ain, Kronos chief executive officer. "This outstanding group of customers represents the ever-expanding opportunities to use Kronos software and services to effectively manage the workforce."
BJC Healthcare, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare organizations in the U.S., was recognized for best practices in overall excellence. The 26,000-employee health system's strategic decision to launch a large-scale workforce management initiative, branded "MyTime", provided vision and momentum for the innovative Kronos for Healthcare implementation. The results include operational consistency, increased employee satisfaction, and greater financial control and compliance.
Catholic Health East (CHE), a multi-institutional Catholic health system, was recognized for best practices in implementation. Through internal and external benchmarking, CHE recognized a need to improve its approach to productivity management. CHE established an enterprise-wide productivity program that uses the analytic tool within Kronos for Healthcare to monitor performance and examine hospital comparative data. CHE has completed phase one of a two-phase implementation approach. In the first phase, CHE conducted pilot programs and implemented the productivity program in 19 of the system's acute care hospitals. In the second phase, Kronos for Healthcare will be implemented in other acute and non-acute care facilities.
Ceradyne, Inc., a worldwide leader in the development and production of advanced technical ceramics, was recognized for best practices in engaging its workforce. In an effort to develop leaner manufacturing practices while positively impacting employee morale, Ceradyne leveraged Overall Labor Effectiveness, a unique key performance indicator developed by Kronos, which provides the cumulative effect of workforce utilization, performance, and quality in a single metric. Comprehensive reports at all levels, ease of use, and great system performance were key factors to maximizing the user experience and meeting the overall objectives."
Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center, one of Minnesota's premier gaming destinations, was recognized for best practices in specialized solutions. After implementing Kronos to better serve its employees through payroll accuracy, the gaming operation is now using Kronos for Gaming, including absence management and scheduling, to maximize profitability, customer service, and employee productivity.
Somerfield Stores, one of the UK's most successful grocery stores, was recognized for best practices in international excellence. In an effort to become "Britian's favourite local grocery store", the 850-store chain implemented Kronos for Retail to improve customer service, control costs, and improve productivity. By taking the burden off its management to create schedules manually, Somerfield has experienced a 25 percent increase in positive customer feedback and a dramatic improvement in employee satisfaction.
Wabash National Corporation, one of the leading manufacturers of semi trailers in North America, was recognized for best practices in specialized solutions. Wabash successfully transformed the information derived from Kronos for Manufacturing into strategic workforce performance insight. By providing an innovative way to leverage its workforce, the company is now poised to continually improve labor performance and drive core company values of quality, customer satisfaction, and employee development.
In addition, a large customer in the retail sector in the U.S was recognized for best practices in innovation. Working closely with Kronos, the retailer developed an employee assessment for high-impact job situations and possible employee responses. The assessment is incorporated into Kronos' selection and hiring solution and administered during the application and interview process, which has helped the retailer determine that 87 percent of candidates in the top third of the assessment are considered to have high potential to become future leaders at the company.
