Kronos® Chief Scientist Unveils New Book to Help HR Practitioners Improve Hiring Practices in Tight Labor Market

Expert in selection and hiring science named to SHRM's Human Capital Measurement Panel

LAS VEGAS — June 25, 2007 — In today's tight labor market, organizations are laser focused on recruiting top-performing employees. At the same time, they are also facing mounting pressure to lower hiring standards. In his new book, Hiring Success, unveiled today at The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) 59th Conference & Exposition, Dr. Steven Hunt, Ph.D., SPHR, chief scientist for Kronos® Incorporated, explores the science of selection and hiring and explains how to avoid hiring mistakes in the midst of a labor shortage.

Dr. Hunt's extensive experience working with seasoned HR professionals encouraged him to write Hiring Success. As an expert in empowering organizations to make the right hire, not just any hire, he realized the need to educate HR professionals about selection and hiring best practices. Hiring Success provides organizations with a comprehensive resource to improve the accuracy and efficiency of selection and hiring decisions and effectively incorporate scientific behavioral assessments into the staffing process.

"Many organizations believe that lowering their hiring standards is an inevitable reality in this fiercely competitive labor market. This places organizations between the proverbial rock and a hard place," said Dr. Hunt. "With the release of Hiring Success and in my role in the SHRM Human Capital Measurement Panel, I look forward to sharing my insight on how organizations can navigate today's hiring landscape while balancing the need to increase applicant flow against the risk of making the wrong hiring decisions."

Hiring Success has already received accolades from industry thought leaders who have previewed Dr. Hunt's book:

  • "Hiring Success will prove to be a useful handbook and reference guide to HR professionals seeking to better understand and utilize employee selection and assessment tools," said Adam Malamut, vice president, human resources at Marriott International.
  • "Strikes a superb and much-needed balance between the complexities of assessments and the practical application and effectiveness they offer as a selection tool," commented Paul Riddle, organizational and leadership development manager at Southeastern Freight Lines.
  • "Dr. Hunt's book is the perfect combination of decision science and management practice. If you are interested in successful hires you must read this book," remarked Jac Fitz-enz, chief executive officer of Human Capital Source.

As a SHRM Special Expertise Panel Member in the area of Human Capital Measurement, Dr. Hunt will help the society advance the HR profession by providing expert advice and tracking current and emerging industry best practices. The advisory members also help guide SHRM's public policy principles and provide functional expertise to the organization's volunteers and staff members. Dr. Hunt will serve a three-year term.
